He fet una petita prova amb el meu nou flash, un METZ 50 AF-1 DIGITAL. Es tracta d'una sèrie de fotografies amb un mateix motiu, una llibreria de casa meva, totes amb una Nikon d80 en mode manual amb els següents paràmetres principals: ISO 100, f/8, 1/60 i un objectiu Tokina 12-24 fixat a 24mm. A la primera imatge el flash està desactivat, apreciant-se una evident sub-exposició. En la segona i la tercera el flash està activat, la diferència és que en la segona el projector està disposat completament en horitzontal i a la tercera aixecat 45º per rebotar la llum al sostre i amb la pantalla de difusió extesa. Com es pot apreciar, la llum frontal provoca unes ombres molt intenses i tallants, mentre que l'il·luminació indirecte crea un ambient més natural, similar al de la quarta imatge, en aquest cas sense flash però ajustant la càmera per una exposició correcte: ISO 100, f/8, 1/5s.
I made a small test with my new flash, a METZ 50 AF-1 DIGITAL. Is a series of pictures with the same target: a library of my home, taken with a Nikon D80 in manual mode at ISO 100, f/8 and 1/60s, with an objective Tokina 12-24 fixed at 24mm. In the first picture the flash is disabled, to appreciating a clear under-exposure. In the second and third the flash is on, the difference is that in the second the projector is set completely horizontal and in the third raised 45 degrees to bounce the light to the ceiling. As you can see, the front light causes a very intense shadows, while the indirect lighting creates a more natural ambient, similar to the fourth image, in this case without flash but adjusting the camera to a correct exposure: ISO 100, f / 8, 1/5s.
Estava dubtant si compar-me el METZ 50 AF-1 o el NIKON SB 700. Els dos tenen característiques i funcions similars. L'únic desavantatge que li veig al METZ és, per dir-ho d'alguna manera, que té menys botonets, de manera que per activar alguna de les funcions avançades cal presionar una combinació de tecles. Algunes d'aquestes funcions són el mode d'intensitat manual (que va de 1 a 128 en 7 passos) i fixar el zoom de l'òptica del reflector (que pot ser útil per evitar el sorollet que fa, força molest; si el fixem en l'angular més gran, 24 mm, al ser força potent ja va bé per la majoria de situacions). Els menús del NIKON són mes amables, però més o menys fa el mateix i costa uns 100 € més.
I doubted to purchase the METZ 50 AF-1 or the NIKON SB 700. Both have similar features and functions. The only disadvantage I can see for the METZ is that has "less buttons", so to enable some advanced features is needed a combination of keys. Some of these functions are manual mode intensity (ranging from 1 to 128 in 7 steps) and block the zoom optics of the reflector (which can be useful to prevent a quite annoying noise, if you set the largest angle, 24 mm, the flash is powerful enough to cover most situations). NIKON's menus are more friendly, but does the same and cost about 100 € more.
En la Nikon d80 funciona en mode TTLbl, de manera que calcula la potència en funció de l'exposímetre de la càmera (TTL) i, a més, considera l'informació addicional que aporta l'objectiu (distància d'enfoc, angular, etc). Tot això no funciona amb objectius antics: he provat un Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8 d'enfoc manual i tan sols es pot disparar el flash en mode manual.
In the Nikon D80 works in TTLbl mode, so that power is calculated according to the built in metering of the camera (TTL, through the lens) and is also considered the additional information provided by the lens (focus distance, angle, angle, etc.). This doesn't work with old lenses: I tried a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 manual focus and the flash can only be shoot in manual mode.
La pantalla LCD posterior indica l'ajust del zoom del projector, l'abast del flash (considerant els ajustos de la càmera en aquell moment) i la compensació de l'exposició en la potència del flash, molt fàcil d'ajustar amb dos dels quatre botons que tenim.
The rear LCD shows the zoom setting of the projector, the range of the flash (assuming the camera settings at that time) and the exposure compensation in the power of flash, very easy to adjust with two of the only four buttons that we can find.
Finally, mention that has a integrated diffuser that allows to work with lenses with focal up to 12mm.
